Some interesting principles that I’ve come across and would like to share:
- Peter’s Principle: It states that successful members of a hierarchical organisation are eventually promoted to their highest level of competence, after which further promotion raises them to a level at which they are not competent.
- Conclusion: Most organisations haveincompetent people in key positions – quite scary
- The Dilbert Principle: a 1990s satirical observation stating that companies tend to systematically promote their least-competent employees to management, in order to limit the amount of damage that they’re capable of doing.
- Conclusion: People at key positions can’t do damage and so u don’t need any skills to be in these positions – anyone can be top manager
- Murphy’s law: If there’s more than one way to do a job, and one of those ways will result in disaster, then somebody will do it that way.
- Conclusion: If something bad can happen, then it will definitely happen – some fool will do it
- Hanlon’s razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity
- Conclusion:Some people are just stupid!!!
– don;t just assume thay are bringh coz they said something
- Parkinson’s Law: work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion
- Conclusion: Everyone is busy all the time
- Finagle’s Law of Dynamic Negatives: Anything that can go wrong, will—at the worst possible moment.
-
- Beware of that one coz it does happen a lot – computers not workingwhen u badlyneed to finish an assignment

Had nothing to do last Saturday and was quite bored at home. So I decided to see Memoirs of a Geisha.
It's interesting – a bit slow at times I think but visually very nice and also it shows a different world (well with an American touch in the end, can't do much about that
). Won't say more – don't want to spoil anything.
My rating: 7/10 (Visually nice)
I’ve just discovered a Proceeding in ACM. It’s SIGCOMM and the interesting part, for me, is that part of it is about Games and Networks.
People often don’t consider games as something important in Mauritius but maybe if ACM is looking at that, this might change the opinion of some people – hopefully.
I’m reading an interesting paper: A Systematic Classification of Cheating in Online Games. Did not know that people wrote about that kind of stuff
So if u r a member of ACM, do check that.
I was told that being an ACM member was good. U have access to a whole lot of stuff. However, I did not not know that it was that good!!! I registered a week ago (for developping countries it’s only $43) and the wealth of up-to-date information available is absolutely amazing.
So many papers and course notes!!! It’s an absolute must-have if you want to keep up-do-date about what people are researching in computing, if you want to start good research or provide up-to-date material to students.
The only drawback is that there’s too much exciting stuff to read

Just finished the series (not too long – only 25 episodes). So, it’s dark, but nice
. The end is not at all what I’d been expecting – all the better and I would definitely rate it as a must-see anime. Mind you, might not be for kinds though.
Enjoy

A few weeks back, the movie Benares was released in Mauritius. It was advertised as the "first Mauritian movie". So out of curiosity, I went to have a look.
Comments: Not bad. Basically it's just a long trip by road for 2 guys looking for some girls to spend the night with. But why was it rated as 18??? I honestly don't know – strong language??? Well it's nothing that a 15 year old would not have heard.
Anyway it's not a masterpeice but worth a look. So go see it if you can. It's high time we encourage our Mauritian cinematographers.

Since december 2005, Ive been using Linux at work – just decided to try that as my PC was getting very very slow. Oh surprise, Kubuntu (Breezy Badger) is nearly as easy to use as Windows. So I’ve swithced to Linux for about 7 months now and i’m happy (still use Windows for some applications though – especially for playing games).
Now with Dapper Drake coming out, Ubuntu should be even easier to use. So try it. It’s fun.
Started playing that game a week ago, and as my friend warned me, it’s quite tedious. Yet quite catching after some time
I've not seen a lot of manga but according to what I've watched recently I'd just like to give some ratings.
Good:
- Bleach – very nice anime. It has a quite slow start but it's very gripping once u've got over the forst 10 episodes. It's has some good fights, is funny but for now lacks romance.
- Full metal Alchemist – nice one, many people will just love it
Others:
- Naruto – very famous but fillers are quite boring – it's losing its funny touch
- Berserk – quite dark!!! It's all about fighting for what I've seen till now
That's all for now, I'l continue when I have some more time.
In Mauritius, where I live, Anime is very often seen as stuff for kids. But I totally disagree!!! Some (not all I admit) are very deep and "kids" will miss all of what's in it. For example, I've just started watching Serial Experiment Lain. It's one of those stuff that u absolutely adore or hate and it's not easy watching.
