I’ve just discovered a new game engine – Panda3D it’s called and it’s developped by Disney and Carnegie Mellon. Hmmm, these guys are interesting, let’s see what they’ve done.

At first sight, the game engine does not look that poweful – the graphics are not what you would get from Unreal Engine! Also, it’s developped in python – how can I betray by beloved C/C++??? This would be an outrage!!!

However, a closer look revealed a simple game engine that seems very easy to use – I don’t know python at all but I’ve writing codes!!! So the next step was to download a python IDE – for the sake of syntax hilighting and here we go!

Python is cool!!! I’ve now downloading it for Windows – betraying linux for a while but I’ve only downloaded Panda3D for windows for now. Also lots of tutorials seem to be available
Conclusion: Panda3D and python is fun.

Also, Python got its name from Monty Python – not the snake; what a relief. What is also means is that it’s creators have a good sense of humour.

Thanks to Ashmeeta and Vicky, two project students of mine for making me discover this.
Shit I should doing TAL & lecture notes!!! ;)

I play football every Saturday – it’s not seriouos football or anything of the sort (galoupe – casse vente – et mette boucoup dialogs :) ) . Previously we had lots of “players” but recently the number has been declining until we are now left with a small group of “irreductibles Gaulois batter boule” :) .

So, out of despair – we don’t want to run the whole length of the field, we’re inviting players but God it’s hard to find new players!!! Yet, diabetes, high blood pressure,… is increasing in Mauritius. Is that so weird!!! I guess no, I’m sure that if I was organising a dhool-purri party every Saturday I’d have to tell people not to come – LOL.

If we want to be healthy, we’ll very soon have to adopt good eating habits and a sports culture – by that I don’t mean, lying on the couch n screaming when Machester scores while eating tons of crisps!

Today it Divali and so for once I’m stuck at home on a Saturday :p.

Divali is a festival I like a lot coz it’s very colourful and there are light everywhere. I guess it’s human nature to like light – maybe it’s from our cave dwelling origin where monsters would sneak upon us and snatch us at night :) – asoir, kan fer noir,… :)

So happy divali everyone and enjoy the lights (especially the earth ones – guess I’m starting to be old; prefering old things to technology) LOL

You got this problem while trying to compile a simple C++ file in KDevelop:

cd ‘/home/pascal/temp/atest’ && make -f Makefile.cvs && cd ‘/home/pascal/temp/atest/debug’ && CXXFLAGS=”-O0 -g3″ “/home/pascal/temp/atest/configure” –enable-debug=full && cd ‘/home/pascal/temp/atest/debug’ && make
aclocal
aclocal: configure.in: 8: macro `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL’ not found in library
make: *** [all] Error 1
*** Exited with status: 2 ***
Don’t look any further. If you are using Kubuntu, install the package libtool using adept and everything will be fine. When will compilers learn to give simple meaningful error messages??? Wasted a lot of precious time looking for that on the Internet – beware, there are many bad answers out there.

Also, using KDevelop and not being able to debug is a pain! The solution: install gdb before you start trying to debug.

I wonder why so few Mauritians have a creole nickname. In fact, apart from myself, zetwal, I don’t know any other person having a creole nick! Most of them have either a french or English one. Why is that so? Are we ashamed of our mother-tongue?

By analogy, one of my french mates, who has a french nickname, told me that he is one of the rare french having a french nick; most of his friends have an English one just to appear cool.

Are we doing the same here? I guess yes, we don’t see creole as cool but English and French, oh God yessssss!!! ;)

I changed the tires of my car recently and the guys doing it moved my old back tires to the front and put the new at the rear. Is that good practice? My colleagues were all shocked that this was done coz they all thought that good tiress should go to the front coz they get used up more quickly.

Yet, they r wrong. I can see their logic but on a safely point of view, manufacturers advise us to always put new tires at the rear. A small search on the Internet will reveal the reasons for this.

After a lot of thinking, I’ve decided to give a try to Nomad for Internet connection at home. Usually I use Internet at work and rarely at home but sometimes I badly need Internet at home coz I’ve forgotten to download something – and this is happening more and more these days. Previously I was using the 56kbps from Mauritius Telecom but in addition of being slow, it’s bloody expesive for what it’s worth! So I’ve gone for the 64kbps WiMax technology provided by Nomad.

It’s not that fast – I’ve paddling the web rather than surfing it, but for its price, it good. I’m getting similar internet connection to what I got with my 56kbps modem or even slightly higher but at a much cheaper price – a flat rate of about Rs 630 per month for 24/7 access.

Luckily I’m in the coverage area and hopefully its price will go down soon :)
